Multiple Tooth Replacement

Single Tooth replacement

Why to replace missing teeth :

Cosmetically, missing a tooth isn’t fun. It can feel uncomfortable or embrassing to have a gap in your teech. But besides lacking elegance, missing a tooth can be harmful to your dental health. This is why it’s important to replace the toothe with a dental implant, a dental bridge, removable partial dentures etc.

Here are some reason why to replace missing tooth :

1) Teeth may shift or losen :

When every tooth is in your mouth, nearly in a row, they can keep each other lined up & stable. If you’re missing a tooth however, you risk the possibility of teeth shifting. Teeth can drift out of place, leading to change in your bite, potential gum diseases, & possible tooth decay.

2) Your face could change : Missing teeth can dramatically alter a persons appearance.

3) Your jaw bone will begin to deteriorate & weakens.

4) Your bite can change and cause chronic jaw pain .

Dental Implants :

A dental implant is a surgical component that interface with the bone of the jaw /Skull to support a dental prosthesis such as crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. Today implants are considered as the standard of care for prosthetic replacement of missing teeth in dentistry.

The dental implant acts as a replacement for the root of a missing tooth. Having a dental implant fused to jawbone is the closest thing to mimicking a natural tooth because it stands on its own without affecting the nearby teeth and has great stability. The process of fusion between dental implant and jawbone is called ‘Osseointegration’ most dental implants are made of Titanium. Which allows them to integrate with bone without being recognized as a foreign object in our body.

1) Need for Dental Implant :

Dental implants can be used to replace single tooth, several teeth , or all of teeth. The goal of teeth replacement in dentistry is to restore function as well as esthetics. When it comes to tooth replacement, there are 3 options :

1) Removable dental appliance : Complete Denture or Partial Denture.
2) Fixed dental bridge.
3) Dental Implant :
Dentures are more affordable option for replacement of teeth but are the least desirable because of the inconvenience of a removable appliance is the mouth. Furthermore, dentures can affect one’s taste and sensory experience with tooth. Dental Bridge was the more common restorative option prior to introduction of implant. The main disadvantage of Bridge is dependence on existing natural teeth support. Implants are supported by bone only and do not affect surrounding natural teeth. Dental implants are conservative in that missing teeth can be replaced without affecting / altering the adjacent teeth, they are very stable and can have the look & feel of one’s own natural teeth.
